The primary advantage of any logging API over plain printString statements sent to the console or a file is the ability to disable certain log statements while allowing others to output unheeded. This capability is achieved by assigning priorities or levels to both the log messages and the output destinations. A logging framework should also provide the ability to format the output in a useful way.
