Formatting your report
The following are tips for formatting your report so that it looks more like the illustration shown at the beginning of this chapter.
Setting fonts
You can change the fonts in your report as follows:
1. To change the font for the report title, open the settings of the Report Title Field in the report header, select the deviceFont property, and select ... to open the font selection dialog.
2. Use the font selection dialog to set the font for the title.
3. Select each of the label text fields in the query result table section of the report and change the font to bold.
4. Select the following report lines and change their fonts to help set them apart from the lines containing expenses:
a. The header section of the iterator
b. The footer section of the iterator containing column totals
c. The footer section of the iterator containing grand totals
Aligning columns
You can line up the columns in your report as follows:
5. To align the column heading, data, and total fields in the iterator, open each field's settings and set identical the x, width, and justification properties for each.
To align the Airfare columns, for example, open the settings of the following fields:
a. Airfare
b. airfare]
c. airfareTotal
Set the x value to 2.5, the width value to .75, and the text justification to right.
6. To indent the Column totals and Total expenses labels, open the settings for each and set the x value to .25.
Spacing the report sections
You can improve the spacing between each part of the report as follows:
7. Drop a Report Line part below the line containing the Manager field and delete the default text field.
8. Drop a Report Line part above the line containing the Column totals field and delete the default text field.
Tip
Make sure this line is in the footer section of the iterator. If you put it in the body section, you will have a blank line between each expense in the body of the iterator
9. Drop a Report Line part above the line containing the Total expenses field and change the default text field to a line. (Use the underscore character on your keyboard.)
Showing monetary symbols
To add monetary symbols to each of the Report Calculated Field fields, open their settings and select Monetary Amount from the converter drop-down list.
