Mail is an application based on the essentials of the replicating Domino database system. The mail system is implemented using several databases, some special functions in the client, and an automated tasks in the Domino server.

There are many applications which use the mail system, for instance workflow systems, fax gateways, and pager gateways. To use these applications with Smalltalk or VA Smalltalk programs, you have to realize how the Domino mail system is setup up and which databases are involved.
