Changing part properties
The next step in constructing the user interface is modifying the properties of the parts you have added. Every part has specific characteristics that help define its default behavior and appearance. The following list gives only a few examples of modifications you can make to the properties of a part:
• Validate and format the data entered into a Text part
• Add items to the Drop-Down List part
• Make a Text part read-only, so that users cannot type information in them
• Have a Toggle Button checked by default when the window is first opened
• Make one of several Push Button parts the default push button, so that when a user presses the Enter key the button is pressed
As you have already seen, you can open the properties window for a part by double-clicking on the part or by selecting the part and either selecting
Open Settings from the pop-up menu for the part or selecting
(properties icon) from the tool bar.
