Problem

We are deploying new 64-bit computers and we want to run our VA Smalltalk applications on them.

Solution

VA Smalltalk 9.0, and beyond, support running VAST as a native 64-bit application in these environments. Versions of VA Smalltalk prior to 9.0 do not directly take advantage of 64-bit processing. However, VA Smalltalk and its predecessor, VisualAge Smalltalk, will run just fine on 64-bit hardware — Intel or AMD x86, RS/6000, and Sun – together with their 64-bit operating systems.
