Host variables for
Use the
Host variables for window to set data types for host variables in the current SQL statement.
Setting host variable characteristics is optional and can improve query performance. If you do not set host variable characteristics, VA Smalltalk substitutes the actual host variable values into the SQL statement at execution time. You must specify host variable characteristics for all variables in the query in order to save them.

Select OK to save all host variable data type settings and close this window.
Select Cancel to close the window without changing the host variable data type settings.
Select
Edit to set or change the data type of the selected host variable. Selecting this push button opens the
Edit host variable window.

To get to the Host variables for window create an SQL statement with a host variable, and then do one of the following:
• From the Query pull-down menu of the Database Query - Settings or SQL Statement - Settings window, select Host variables.
• On page 2 of the Multi-Row Query - Settings Query Spec tab, select the Host variables push button.
